about
This is a demo I recorded at home. The song was written for my brother-in-law Jim and his wife Hanny about their life in the cabin they built in Bouchette, Québec. Everything in the song is true, even the last verse.
lyrics
We’ve got a little place, up the hill, round the bend
take the road from town, till that road just ends
we’ve got a chicken in the tree, and a dog in the yard
there’s a bear in the woods, has us breathing hard
refrain:
that’s life in the country, we’re feeling pretty good
in our little log cabin, in the middle of the woods
there’s a lake down the road, and a sliver of a moon
there’s frogs in the spring, and the call of the loon
crows in the corn, where they shouldn’t oughta be
mice tap-dancing, it’s a sight to see
refrain
we’ve apples in the orchard, grapes on the vine
making cider in the morning and jellies and wine
we’re bringing garlic and squash, from the garden beds
the cat’s left us something, on the bedspread
refrain
we’ve got raspberries, currents, herbs of all kinds
rows of veggies and they’re doing just fine
we’re chopping wood and stacking wood, and burning wood, too
to see you through the winter, it’s what you’ve got to do
refrain
people from the city don’t know what they’re missing
they never have the time to just stop and listen
the sky’s so big you can touch the stars
and there’s something spooky howling out there in the dark
refrain
I remember a night, it was a while ago
we saw an eerie light, maybe a UFO
we got out of bed and went and stood on the lawn
but it just went away, it didn’t bother us none
refrain

You can't go wrong with an Ange Hardy album and the latest is no exception. She has a voice that is purely sublime with material that speaks to the common man and woman. Charles de Lint
I just love the interplay of Keane and Delaney's instruments as they play through the invigorating set of tunes on this album. I've been hitting replay every time I play it. Charles de Lint
